The easiest way to pay business rates is by Direct Debit because:
- your payments are made automatically by your bank or building society
- you're fully protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee
- pay your monthly instalment on a date more convenient for you (get a choice of dates on which you can pay, this is only offered when you use Direct Debit)
Once you've set up your Direct Debit we'll send you a bill confirming the new instalment arrangements.
Set up a Direct Debit online
Setting up your Direct Debit using the online portal is the fastest and easiest method.
To start, select the 'Set up a Direct Debit online' button. This takes you to our 'Change your payment method' online form.
You need to provide your 9-digit business rates account number for reference. This starts with the number 7 and can be found on your business rates bill.
Send a Direct Debit instruction by post
If you're unable to set up your direct debit online, such as needing to print and sign your Direct Debit instruction, you can download our paper form and return it in the post.

Pay by card over the telephone
You can make a card payment using our automated payment telephone line.
