A full council tax bill is based on at least 2 adults living in a home. Spouses and partners who live together are jointly responsible for the bill.
Some people with specific circumstances may not appear on the Council Tax bill and may qualify for a Council Tax discount. Such as:
- children under 18
- children over 18 still eligible for child benefit
- 18 and 19-year-olds in full-time education
- student midwives and student health visitors
- full-time college and university students
- foreign language assistants registered with the British Council
- persons with serious dementia, learning difficulties, brain injury etc.
- live-in carers who look after someone who isn't their partner, spouse, or child
- diplomats
How much discount will you get
The discount depends on who, in your home, is affected. You'll get:
- 25% discount if everyone has qualifying circumstances, excluding you
- 50% discount if everyone has qualifying circumstances, including you
