- Port Meadow is a SSSI (site of specific scientific interest), a SAC (special area of conservation) and has SMC (scheduled monument consent) as defined by Natural England
- Port Meadow has also a high volume of migrating birds, a large cattle stock, and semi-wild horses, so the wildlife must not be disturbed by any circumstances
- This is a Countryside site, so the Countryside Code must be followed
- Vehicular access onto the meadow is restricted unless disabled access
