T-GULO is part of the Go Ultra Low Oxford programme and aims to provide rapid charging for the taxi trade.
The rapid chargers are being installed and reserved for the Oxford Hackney, and Private Hire vehicles.
Oxford City Council is working with Blink Charging (formerly EB Charging Ltd) and Oxfordshire County Council to install these chargers across Oxford.
T-GULO has formally entered phase two, which will deliver a minimum of twelve rapid charge points/six chargers, building on the learning generated by T-GULO phase one, which saw four rapid charge points (two chargers) installed in Manzil Way Gardens.
The charging point locations will ensure that e-taxi drivers are never more than five miles away from a charging solution and will be easily accessible from the major artery roads into the city.
The locations of rapid EV charging points for electric taxis currently are:
- Manzil Way (2 chargers, 4 bays)
- Keble Road (2 chargers, 4 bays)
- Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre (1 charger, 2 bays)
- Headington Car Park (1 charger, 2 bays)
- Old Greyfriars Street (3 chargers, 6 bays)
Blackbird Leys and Headington will all feature a temporary bay that the general public can use. Keble Road includes a charger (two bays) open to the public. However, once more electric taxis are in the fleet, this public use will be withdrawn to make the sites electric taxi use only (both Private Hire and Oxford Hackney).
Old Greyfriars Street will not feature a public bay and remain electric taxi only at all times.
The T-GULO project is enabling the electric vehicle transition of the Oxford Hackney and Private Hire trade as preparation for the Oxford Zero Emission Zone, reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality for Oxford residents and beyond. The proposals will also encourage the use of sustainable transport modes and help support the delivery of broader transport initiatives.
All proposed charge points are delivered under the Go Ultra Low Oxford (GULO) strand of projects, funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles and Oxford City Council, and delivered in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council.
