Guide to compostable sack collections

Paper-based, eco, compostable sacks are only available under the Garden Waste Collection Scheme which is a yearly chargeable subscription service where we collect your garden waste from your home for recycling.

Compostable sacks on collection day

Here's what to expect on collection day and what you should do to prepare your sacks for collection:

• we only collect garden waste from the authorised address and in our supplied paper-based compostable sacks (we won't collect the old green hessian sacks or any other containers put out)
• put your paper sacks out by 7am on your normal green bin/lilac sack collection day
• sacks must be placed in a clearly visible and accessible location where your property meets the publicly adopted highway/pavement (or where your property meets the agreed private road)
• you can put out as many sacks as you want but please do not obstruct the pavement
• sacks and their contents all go into the collection vehicle - you do not get the sacks back
• paper sacks are non-transferable between properties and will not be collected from properties that have not purchased them
• sacks will start to degrade and crumble if they get wet and should be stored in a dry area until your collection day

Assisted collection of compostable sacks

If you currently receive an assisted collection you will also receive assisted collection for your compostable sacks.

Size and cost of compostable sacks

Compostable paper sacks are 75L, (80cm x 60cm x 25cm) and cost £55.35 for a roll of 10 sacks and £85 for a roll of 20 sacks. 

You get a discount if you receive housing benefit, council tax support and universal credit (housing element). The cost to you is £28.10 for a roll of 10 sacks and £50 for a roll of 20 sacks. If you stop receiving benefits while you're on the scheme your collections will continue but you will need to pay full price when you need to buy more sacks.

If you are moving house

If you are moving to a property serviced by us we can continue to collect your sacks. You'll need to tell us so we know to transfer the service to your new collection crew. If you don't let us know you've moved, our crews will not be authorised to collect any sacks at your new property. 

If you are moving outside of Oxford or to a property we do not service, let us know and we will let the crews know to stop collecting sacks at your old property.

Update or cancel your garden waste collections
