Water activities in Oxford
Canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and rowing are very popular ways to get out on the water, particularly with inflatable models so easy to store and transport.
To access some waterways, you need a licence. You can easily get this through the British Canoe Union. For more information, visit the British Canoe Union website.
You do not need a licence to use the River Cherwell.
Safety is important. You should always wear the right safety equipment, including a buoyancy aid and footwear to protect your feet. Always let someone know where you, don’t drink or take drugs, and never venture onto the river when it is in flood or dark.
