Brown bins and eco sacks are for compostable garden waste. We can collect these but it's not a free service and you'll need to subscribe to the Garden Waste Collection Scheme.
Yes - you can put these in your brown bin or compostable sacks
These are the compostable garden waste items you can put in your brown bin or sacks for collection:
- branches no more than 5cm or 2 inches in diameter
- flowers
- garden prunings
- grass cuttings
- hedge trimmings
- leaves, plants and weeds
- small shrubs
No - do not put any of these in your brown bin or sack
You must not put any of these waste items into your brown bin or compostable sacks:
- compostable packaging (use the green bin)
- flower pots
- food waste (use the food caddy)
- greenhouse glass or frame (or any other glass)
- metal/aluminium foil and cans
- paper, card or cardboard
- pet waste (unless they're plant-eating animals)
- plastics (of any kind)
- tree logs, soil, rubble
Other ways you can recycle your garden waste
- Compost at home with discounted compost bins from the Get Composting website.
- Take garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.
- If your neighbour already has a brown bin they may be willing to share if they have space.
