Working with ODS, we are supporting a recycling service enabling you to recycle your coffee pods every week, as part of your normal kerbside recycling and waste collections.

Register for kerbside collection

Register for the Podback recycling service at the Podback website. If you live in a flat or communal property please contact us first so we can assess your collection arrangements.

When you register you can order your free recycling bags to recycle your aluminium or plastic coffee pods. If you use both types of coffee pods, you can request a roll for each type as these must be recycled separately. The bags will take about 5 working days to be delivered and Podback will send new bags to you every six months.

Once you have your bags you can start recycling straight away. There is no need to remove the used coffee grounds but please drain any remaining liquid from your used pod before adding it to your recycling bag.

Place your bags on top of your blue recycling or green waste bin lids (not your food caddy) on your usual collection day but please only use the bags provided for kerbside collection of your pods.

If for any reason, we do not collect your bags, we will collect them the following week - please leave them out for collection with your normal recycling and waste collection service, on top of your blue recycling or green waste bin lid, ensuring your bags only contain coffee pods and are not filled with liquids. It may be that the crew had to leave the bags as they contained the wrong materials. If the bags do contain the wrong materials or lots of liquid, please remove them before presenting them for collection.

You can also drop off your coffee pods at Redbridge Waste Recylcing Centre as well as different supermarkets. Please visit the Podback website to find your nearest drop off point.

If you have further questions about the Podback scheme, please have a look at their Frequently Asked Questions.

What Happens to Coffee Pods Once Collected?

After collection, the coffee pods are taken to a specialist reprocessing plant in the UK to separate the packaging from the used coffee grounds. The coffee grounds are used to create soil improvers and renewable energy. The plastic and aluminium will be transformed into new products such as beverage cans or plastic garden furniture.

Aluminium pods are reprocessed at Tandom Metallurgical Group Ltd in Congleton, Cheshire and plastic pods are reprocessed by Roydon in Swinton, near Manchester.
