Small household electricals and electronic equipment (EEE) including batteries, vapes and mobile phones can be put in clear bags on top of your bid lid (or by your sacks). Never throw electrical items inside bins as they're a fire risk.

We collect these every week but it's important you prepare your electrical items properly.

This page lists the types of EEE we collect and how to prepare them for collection.

Top tips:

  • use clear plastic bags so we can see the contents (you can use a carrier bag but don't tie it up)
  • place all bags on top of any bin lid (or by your sacks) on any collection day
  • don't tie bags to bins
  • we don't collect electricals from flats with shared bins, find your nearest recycling points at Recycleyourelectricals.org.uk

Small household electrical items

We collect small electricals that plug in, charge up or are battery-powered, these include:

  • CD, DVD and video players
  • chargers, leads and cables
  • clocks
  • electric toothbrushes and razors
  • games consoles
  • hair dryers and hair straighteners
  • irons
  • kettles and toasters
  • lamps
  • landline telephones
  • radios and stereos
  • smoke alarms
  • watches

Small electricals must fit into a standard carrier bag. For example you might fit a toaster, a watch and cables in one carrier bag but need a second carrier bag for a games console.

Please remove any batteries and bag those separately.

Batteries, vapes and mobile phones

Batteries, vapes and mobile phones are recycled differently and must be put in separate bags. For example, put 1 or more mobile phones in one bag, 1 or more vapes in another bag and any number of batteries in another bag.

Disposable Vapes (e-cigarettes)

We're continuing to collect vapes in weekly collections following our Recycle Your Vape campaign (2023 to 2024) where more than 80,000 disposable vapes were collected.

If your vape has a removable battery, take it out and bag it separately.

Mobile phones and tablets

Make sure you cleanse these of personal information and data.

If the battery is removable, remove it and bag it separately.

Batteries

We collect standard household batteries, including 6V, 9V, AA, AAA, Button, C, D, laptop, mobile phone, and lithium batteries.

Tape up the terminals of lithium and button cell batteries before bagging them.

Electricals Take Back Scheme

Under Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) regulations, retailers are legally required to take back used electrical items or contribute to the Distributor Take Back Scheme.
