What to do if you have no gas
- check if your main gas tap is off
- if your gas meter is faulty, contact your gas supplier immediately
How to check a card operated gas meter
Follow these steps:
- ensure there is money on the gas card
- look at the meter screen to see if it displays ON or OFF. If it's OFF, turn off your appliances and reinsert the card
- press the red button
- when prompted, press and HOLD the red button:
- listen for a bleep and a whirring noise indicating it's changing to ON
- if CALL HELP shows on the screen, contact the number on your gas card
Central heating checks
If your boiler isn't working:
- check the timer programmer display, usually located in the airing cupboard or near the boiler
- ensure the electric isolation switch is on. It's usually near the boiler or in the airing cupboard
- if the isolation switch is on, set the programmer to continuous and turn the room thermostat to maximum
- wait around 30 minutes. If you still have no heat, call us to arrange a gas engineer appointment
During a power cut
In a power cut, your gas central heating won't work as it needs electricity to operate. Gas fires and cookers usually aren't affected. Once power is restored, your heating should work normally.
If you still have no heat 30 minutes after the power is back, check the heating programmer. If it's set correctly and you still have no heat, call us. If it's outside normal working hours, please wait to speak to the duty callout officer.
If your heating remains faulty after power restoration, check the programmer again. If the problem persists, contact us during working hours to arrange for a gas engineer.
