Local Plan 2040: Development sites
The Local Plan 2040 contains development site allocation policies, which describe the type of use, or mix or uses that are acceptable on key identified sites across the city. They go into detail about the amount of development that is suitable for the site, important things that need to be protected such as natural features and historic landmarks, and what our expectations are for accessibility, design, environmental impacts, and other areas.
Site allocation policies are a very important part of a local plan and will provide clarity to developers and landowners on what they can and cannot do on a site, and help local people understand what changes they can expect in their communities.
The Local Plan 2040 also identifies five areas of focus, which are specific local areas where we expect notable change because of development over the time of the plan. The plan provides guidance for the type of infrastructure that will be needed to support the anticipated amount of development in these areas, and our requirements for design, protection of the environment and improving the local character.
