Oxford City Council has launched a directory of weekday wonders to encourage city workers to socialise in the city this summer.

With longer days and warmer temperatures, the Council has compiled a list of local businesses that offer unique activities, eating and drinking options or welcoming places for socialising and teambuilding.

Since home or hybrid working became more prominent during the Covid-19 pandemic, fewer people are coming into the office during the week.

When in the office, people are keen to build relationships with their colleagues and look for things to do.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the most popular days for people to work from the office.

What’s on offer

The city centre has a variety of options to suit everyone. Some of the more specialised activities this summer include:

  • Late night opening in the Covered Market (Thurs-Sat only)
  • Fairytales for Grown Ups, and other literary events, from The Story Museum
  • OxTrail 2024
  • Jewlery making at Kina Ceramics
  • River cruises and boat hire

The Council’s directory also highlights food and drink businesses with ample outdoor seating so teams can take advantage of the summer weather.

The full list of Summer Socialising options and how to submit suggestions can be found on the Council’s website.

Comment

“This directory aims to make it easier for Oxford workers to find fun and unique experiences to unwind after a day in the office.

“Whether you’re into arts and crafts, or Backgammon and Beer, there is something for everyone this summer.”

Tom Bridgman, Executive Director of Development, Oxford City Council
