lifeguard holding certificate at Leys pool.

Leys Pools & Leisure Centre is celebrating the appointment of a new member of the team, who has a special connection to the facility.

Newly qualified lifeguard Lincoln Madden was one of the first customers to use Leys back when it opened in January 2015. The moment was captured as Lincoln and brother Nelson splashed merrily in the brand new pool.

Lincoln was six years old when the original photo was taken, having been taken to Leys Pools & Leisure Centre by his dad, Chris.

“Me and his mum, Chrissy are so proud of Lincoln. He was one of the first to ever use the pool, he learnt to swim here, and now he’s a lifeguard, fulfilling an ambition I had for him as a kid.”

Lincoln is at Greyfriars School in the 6th Form, studying Business and Sport, but he’ll be combining his school work with shifts as part of the lifeguarding team at Leys.

“I can’t wait to do my first shift. I really enjoyed the training and I’m looking forward to the responsibility of keeping people safe when they’re at the pool.” said Lincoln.

Leys Pools & Leisure Centre is operated by More Leisure Community Trust (MLCT) in partnership with Serco Leisure. The General Manager at Leys is Richard Monger.

“We’re delighted to welcome Lincoln to the centre, now as a member of staff. He’s got the right attitude and joins our excellent lifeguard team, a group of people who take great pride in their commitment to customer safety.”

MLCT operates five facilities across the city on behalf of Oxford City Council, including Oxford Ice Rink and Hinksey Outdoor Pool.
