Oxford City Council is undertaking its five-yearly review of polling districts and polling stations, inviting members of the public, organisations, and stakeholders to provide feedback.
The review is part of the Council’s commitment to ensuring that all electors have access to practical and accessible facilities when casting their vote.
Consultation period and deadline
The consultation will run until Monday 18 November and we welcome views from all interested parties. To share your comments, please email elections@oxford.gov.uk. The revised polling scheme will come into force on 3 February 2025.
Why is this review taking place?
Under the terms of the Representation of the People Act 1983, all local authorities in England are required to carry out a review of their polling districts and polling places by February 2025. This review aims to ensure that voting facilities are accessible to all electors and that polling places are suitably located.
A polling district is a geographical area that determines where electors will vote. Each district is part of a larger electoral area, such as a Parliamentary constituency, local ward, or electoral division. Our review seeks to assess whether the current polling districts and polling places meet the needs of the community, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all voters. It also provides an opportunity for the public to express concerns or suggestions regarding existing polling arrangements.
Consultation process
We encourage all individuals and organisations with an interest in the electoral process to contribute to the review. The consultation period will end on Monday 18 November. All representations received will be made public. The Council will then consider the feedback and submit a final polling scheme to Full Council for approval on Monday 27 January 2025.
The new scheme, if approved, will take effect with the publication of the new electoral register on 3 February 2025.
