This festive season, make the environmentally friendly choice by recycling your real Christmas tree with ODS.

From 7 January to 14 February, ODS will collect real, bare Christmas trees – free from decorations, lights, and tinsel – on your green/brown bin day.

Collected trees will be transported to Severn Trent Green Power’s local composting site in Wallingford. There, they will be shredded and transformed into compost, which will be used to enrich local farmland – a sustainable way to give back to the environment.

Collection points for easy drop-off

If you live in a flat with shared bins, or would prefer to recycle your tree earlier, you can drop it off at one of the designated Christmas tree collection points across the city. These will be open from Boxing Day (26 December).

Drop-off locations:

  • Alexandra Tennis Courts, Middle Way, Summertown
  • Bury Knowle Park, North Place car park
  • Cutteslowe Park, Harbord Road car park
  • Florence Park, Cowley
  • Long Lane, Littlemore
  • Margaret Road Recreation Ground
  • Meadow Lane Recreation Ground, Jackdaw Lane
  • Oatlands Recreation Ground car park, Ferry Hinksey Road
  • South Park, Morrell Avenue
  • Sunnymead Recreation Ground, by play area
  • Hinksey Park, off Abingdon Road
  • Leys Pool and Leisure Centre, Pegasus Road, Blackbird Leys

Additional options for tree disposal

Real Christmas trees can also be dropped off at Oxfordshire County Council’s seven Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Find more details, visit the County Council's Recycling Over Christmas webpages.

If you have an artificial tree that can’t be reused or donated, these can also be dropped off at a recycling centre for appropriate disposal.

Comment

“Don’t be disheartened once the festivities are over and it’s time to take the decorations down for another year. You can take heart that your real Christmas tree can have a new lease of life by being chipped and recycled as compost.

“Let’s work together to recycle our trees and make a positive impact on our local environment!”

Councillor Nigel Chapman, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focused Services and Council Companies
