A commemoration in Grenoble

Following an invitation from Oxford’s twin city of Grenoble, Councillor Susan Brown, the Leader of Oxford City Council, will not be at this year’s commemorations in the city as she, accompanied by Councillor Alex Hollingsworth, will be representing Oxford at a Remembrance event in Grenoble.

This year Grenoble will be commemorating the anniversary of the deportation of many of their Jewish citizens following the Nazi occupation of the city on 11 November 1943. The Grenoble Remembrance Ceremony will include a tribute to those deported on 11 November 1943, an Armistice ceremony, and the presentation of the Médaille de la Ville to Vincent Malerba, the last person to be deported in November 1943.

Councillors Brown and Hollingsworth are entirely funding the trip themselves; no expenses are being paid by the City Council.
