Oxford City Council is excited to announce a weekend of free Santa-themed fun as part of the Oxford Christmas Lights Festival.

To bring the magic of the season to the city centre, the City Council has organised a weekend of free festive fun in the Covered Market. Events will include a meet-and-greet style breakfast with Santa, an interactive fantasy-filled tour of the market, festive crafts with The Market Tap by Tap Social and balloon modelling.

Festivities will then continue at Oxford’s Victorian Christmas Market on Broad Street.

Saturday 18 November

Grab some breakfast delights from the wonderful array of market traders and join Jolly Old Saint Nick for some festive fun.

Santa will be in the central seating area of the Covered Market to eat breakfast and chat to children (young and old) from 9.30am - 11.30am on Saturday 18 November.

From 1pm, Santa Claus can be found at Oxford’s Victorian Christmas Market, organised by LSD Promotions, on Broad Street.

Please note that Breakfast with Santa is a free, drop-in, un-ticketed event. Santa has left his reindeer at home in the grotto and is in the market purely to meet and greet as many people as possible, there will not be a formal picture opportunity. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Sunday 19 November

Oxford City Council has partnered with The Market Tap by Tap Social so the little ones can write, decorate, and post letters to Santa in a special North Pole Mailbox from 10am - 12pm. There might even be a special surprise appearance from the man himself.

As well as Christmas crafts, there will be a balloon modeller in the market. He will be making free balloon creatures for you to take home.

From 1pm, Santa Claus can be found at Oxford’s Victorian Christmas Market, organised by LSD Promotions, on Broad Street and festivities will continue at The Market Tap.

Please note that this is a free, drop-in, un-ticketed event. Balloon models are not guaranteed, but families will be able to watch and participate in activities. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Save the North Star

On both Saturday and Sunday, families will be able to join WhatNot Theatre for ‘Save the North Star,’ an interactive walking tour of the market.

Led by Mother Christmas & her Woodland Elf, families can expect festive frivolity, magic, and high jinx as they hunt amongst the nooks and crannies of the Covered Market to rescue the fallen light of the North Star in time for the eve of Christmas.

This quest is free to join, but spaces are limited. The tour takes approximately 25 minutes. Sign up on WhatNot Thatre's website.

Comment

“The Covered Market always seems even more magical in the run up to Christmas, so we’re excited to kick off the season with this free, family-friendly, festive weekend.”

Councillor Susan Brown, Leader of Oxford City Council and Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy and Partnerships

“We're delighted to help kids create their letters to Santa on Sunday morning. It's been so fun engaging with families during our weekly Crafty Kids Do Sunday's activities, and we look forward to making this particular session a special one - especially with a surprise guest possibly making an appearance."

Brian Spencer, Marketing Manager at Tap Social

Oxford City Council has teamed up with the Covered Market, Tap Social, Wild Boor and LSD Promotions to bring a weekend of festive fun to the city centre. The events in the Covered Market (only) have been funded by the City Council Light Festival Fund.
