Council Leader Susan Brown has appointed new Champions to help the City Council’s work across six priority areas.

The Champions are:

  • Councillor Ajaz Rehman, Small Business & Inclusive Economy Champion
  • Councillor Barbara Coyne, Older Peoples’ Champion
  • Councillor Louise Upton, Cycling Champion
  • Councillor Jemima Hunt, Reduce, Reuse, Refill Champion
  • Councillor Hosnieh Djafari-Marbini, Migrants Champion
  • Councillor Mary Clarkson, Heritage Champion

The Champions will bring their expertise and engagement with key residents, businesses and groups to provide the City Council’s Cabinet Members with knowledge and advice to inform decision-making.

The Champions, which are unpaid roles, will also continue their duties as local councillors representing their wards.

“We are very fortunate to have a range of different experience, expertise and enthusiasm amongst our elected councillors on Oxford City Council. The role of champions allows us to spotlight areas which need particular focus, are allied with key priorities or cut across a number of cabinet portfolios. Each champion is linked with a cabinet member who can then lead on any policy issues that arise.”
