Oxford City Housing Ltd (OCHL) has appointed Hill as its development partner for the construction of new homes in Iffley.
Oxford City Council’s housing company intends to build at least 29 Passivhaus-standard homes on a plot of land at Meadow Lane earmarked for development in the Oxford Local Plan 2036. In line with the Local Plan, these would include at least 12 council homes let at social rent. Another three homes would be expected to be shared ownership or another affordable tenure.
OCHL is working on plans for the Meadow Lane site and will begin a first round of public consultation on these during the summer. The housing company aims to submit a planning application by the end of the year. If planning permission is granted, construction and infrastructure work will begin in 2022.
An adjacent plot of land – known as the Memorial Field – is not included in the Local Plan and this will be kept as open space for the local community. Consultation will include asking residents for their views on the best use for this part of the site.
OCHL acquired the two plots from Donnington Hospital Trust in November. They were sold together at a total cost of £4.5m.
The appointment of Hill marks a second collaboration between the developer and housing company. Hill is currently building 237 homes on the first phase of Barton Park – known as Mosaics – and these include 95 OCHL homes now let at social rent.
In November Mosaics won the Gold Award for best development at the What House? Awards 2020, in a virtual ceremony hosted by Romesh Ranganathan. Hill also won housebuilder of the year at the same event.
