Buskers create a vibrant atmosphere in the City Centre. However, busking can also lead to a nuisance being caused. We can take action on noise nuisance in the street.

What action we take

Officers routinely patrol the City Centre to monitor buskers and ensure they behave responsibly by avoiding disturbances or nuisances for those living and working in the area.

If reports are received or Officers observe buskers disobeying the Busking Code of Practice, legal measures may be taken to stop the noise and prevent its recurrence. This may involve seizing musical instruments and amplification equipment.

Action you can take

There are time limits for how long a busker can stay in one pitch (one hour or half an hour with drums).

Consider first whether the busker has outstayed their allotted time on the pitch. You could approach the busker and explain politely that you are being troubled by noise and ask them to move on. You may find this difficult, but often people are unaware of the problem they are causing.

If the problem persists please contact us for advice. While we make every effort to visit when possible, due to other work commitments, attending to busker-related issues may not always be feasible at that moment. Nevertheless, we follow-up on any reports made.
