Halls of residents

Welcome to Oxford, new students! Whether you're starting your academic journey at the prestigious University of Oxford or the innovative Oxford Brookes University, halls of residence are a fantastic way to experience Oxford.

Managing your waste doesn't have to be a challenge. Check who manages your halls first, as they'll have information on what you can recycle. If we manage your waste collection, you'll likely have a designated recycling bin, rubbish bin, and food waste bin. Visit our What goes in each bin pages for details about recycling in Oxford, or contact your university for more information about recycling on campus.

Students living in the community

Residents typically receive three bins:

  • a green general waste bin for non-recyclable items
  • a blue recycling bin for recyclable materials
  • a green outdoor food caddy or red bin for food waste

For garden waste, an optional brown garden waste bin is available with a separate paid subscription.

Collection schedule

General waste and recycling bins are collected bi-weekly on alternating weeks.

Visit Find my bin day to find your collection day.

Landlord responsibilities

Your landlord is responsible for ensuring you have all three bins. If any bin is missing, contact your landlord to request a replacement bin.
