Communal buildings such as flats and some HMOs usually have shared bin stores with separate bins for recycling, rubbish and food waste.
If you live in a building that has shared bins, follow our guidance to help avoid missed collections and rubbish build up:
- do not block access to the bin stores as this can prevent collection
- check what goes in each bin as we won’t collect recycling bins if we find wrong items in them
- don’t put batteries or small electrical items in bins or in bags on top of them as we don't collect these from shared bins - use the Waste Wizard at Oxfordshire.gov.uk to find recycling points near you
- don’t leave bulky waste at the bin store as fly tipping is illegal and carries a hefty fine - book a bulky waste collection or take it to a household recycling centre
Issues with shared bins
Your landlord, managing agent or housing association is responsible for managing shared bins at communal buildings. Any issues must be reported to them but you can let us know if the bins are regularly overflowing so we can check if more bins are needed.
