We offer a collection service for most household batteries. Please follow these guidelines on kerbside battery collection day:

  • place batteries in a clear plastic bag on top of any bin, or by your sacks if you don't have a wheelie bin
  • use a carrier bag if a clear plastic bag isn't available, but leave it untied for easy visibility of contents
  • do not put batteries inside any bins
  • do not tie the bag to your bin
  • keep batteries separate from electrical items
  • ensure lithium and button cell batteries have taped terminals
  • we don't collect batteries from flats using shared bins - use the Waste Wizard at Oxfordshire.gov.uk.to find recycling points near you

Batteries we do not collect

We do not collect:

How batteries are recycled

Batteries are made from many different materials including lithium-ion (used in laptop batteries), zinc (used in AA batteries) and nickel-cadmium (used in power tool batteries); all are recycled into their component parts.

The recovered materials can be used to manufacture new batteries and electronics; they can also be used in the steel industry and even in paint production.
