These tests are devised so that applicants can demonstrate that they have sufficient local knowledge of the City of Oxford, the conduct required of licensed drivers, traffic regulations and display a sufficient awareness of the subjects relating to the equality, safeguarding of children and vulnerable persons and disability.
The Local Knowledge and Safeguarding Test for drivers of Hackney Carriage taxis
The test for Hackney Carriage drivers contains six sections:
- Identification of roads and streets: 15 questions
- Identification of buildings and locations: 15 questions
- Correct Routes: 5 questions
- Conditions and regulations: 20 questions
- Safeguarding and Equality: 5 questions
- Disability awareness: 5 questions
Total: 65 questions
The Local Knowledge and Safeguarding Test for drivers of Private Hire vehicles
The test for Private Hire vehicles contains five sections:
- Identification of roads and streets: 15 questions
- Identification of buildings and locations: 10 questions
- Conditions and regulations: 20 questions
- Safeguarding and Equality: 5 questions
- Disability awareness: 5 questions
Total: 55 questions
Passing the test
A minimum of 80% in each section is required to pass the test. The test lasts for 90 minutes and sections 3, 4 and 5 are multiple choice. This means that you are given a number of possible answers to each question and you must decide the correct answer.
If you fail the test you will be invited to take the test again after a further test fee has been paid.
