If you break any of the terms of your tenancy agreement, Oxford City Council may take legal action against you.
Before taking action, you may be given the opportunity to discuss the matter with a Tenancy Management Officer or another council officer. You may also be given the opportunity to correct the situation.
For detailed information, please refer to your Tenancy Agreement.
Reasons for taking legal action
Legal action, including eviction, may be considered if:
- you, someone living with you, or a visitor breaches the Tenancy Agreement
- false information was provided in your housing application
Depending on the case, we might seek to evict you or change your secure tenancy to a demoted tenancy.
If you receive an eviction letter
If you receive an eviction letter:
- make sure you have understood the contents of the letter properly
- contact the Tenancy Management Officer named in the letter
- seek guidance from an independent adviser
Collecting your belongings
If eviction occurs, we will:
- send a letter to arrange a date for you to collect your belongings
- move items to storage if there's no response within five days
- attempt to locate you if no response is received after five days
- inventory and store your items for 28 days, after which perishable or low-value items may be disposed of
- keep items for six months if we can't find you, with potential storage costs being your responsibility
